What changed, and when
Every release of Dictro for Mac, newest first, written in terms of what you would actually notice. Updates install themselves — the app checks for them and asks before replacing itself.

Fewer interruptions
- The talk key no longer sticks. If you let go during a slow moment, the recording actually stops.
- Closing the lid ends the dictation instead of leaving it running.
- Press Escape to throw away a dictation you have already started.
- Far fewer false warnings that a paste did not land — the check now asks whether the app took the text, rather than guessing from the accessibility tree. Browser-based apps were the worst affected.
- You can move an app between writing-style shelves.
Better English, and formatting that gets numbers right
- Noticeably fewer mistakes in English — the default speech model changed.
- Spoken email addresses come out as addresses, instead of a sentence with the word “at” in the middle.
- Phone numbers, one-time codes and reference numbers keep their digits together rather than being turned into words.
- Writing styles rebuilt: categories, editable cards, and a global default you can change once instead of per app.
- Dictro is a normal app now, with a real menu bar, rather than something that only lives in the status bar.
- If a paste does not land, a card offers you the text back instead of losing it.
- Shortcuts using arrow and navigation keys now match reliably. macOS was quietly reporting a Fn key nobody pressed.
- The success confetti can be turned off, and the recording pill can sit vertically.
Sign-in fix
- Signing in from the website now opens the copy of Dictro you installed. If the disk image was still mounted, macOS was handing the sign-in link to the copy inside it, which then appeared to do nothing.
Fully on-device
- Dictro became on-device only. There is no mode in which your audio or your text is sent anywhere.
- A card on the home screen walks you through your first dictation.
- Correct yourself out loud and it is applied rather than typed. Saying “…on Tuesday, actually Wednesday” now leaves you with Wednesday.
- Custom vocabulary catches homophones, so a name that sounds like an ordinary word stops coming back as the ordinary word.
- Abbreviations and web addresses are no longer given a capital letter mid-sentence.
- Less waiting before the text appears — the graphics chip is kept warm so the cleanup pass does not stall from cold.
Before this
Earlier releases
Versions before 0.5.5 were pre-launch. They were spent on the parts nobody wants to read about: code signing, notarisation, the automatic update system, the installer, and bundling the speech models into the app so it works on networks that block the download.
